LOST ITEM RETURN HANDOFF KIT v1.0

Purpose
Use this kit when a short-term-rental item is found after checkout and your team needs one traceable record from intake through pickup, shipping, or policy review.

Start in 6 steps
1. Save a fresh copy of Lost_Item_Return_Handoff_Workbook.pdf for one case.
2. Assign an internal case ID. Use a property alias and only the last four characters of a booking reference.
3. Complete pages 1-2 before contacting the guest. Keep photos in your approved secure storage and record only the reference.
4. Ask the claimant for a distinguishing detail that you have not already disclosed. Do not use this kit as identity-verification advice.
5. For shipping, record quote, guest approval, payment evidence, and carrier receipt as four separate events.
6. Complete the closure review. Keep the workbook only as long as your current policy and applicable law permit.

Files
- Lost_Item_Return_Handoff_Workbook.pdf: fillable five-page master.
- Fictional_Worked_Example.pdf: completed demonstration; every name, property, reference, cost, and shipment is fictional.
- Free_Before_You_Return_An_Item.pdf: one-page printable handoff card.
- Message_Templates.txt: editable guest-message starting points.

Recommended viewer
Adobe Acrobat Reader or another PDF viewer that supports AcroForm fields. Download the file, use Save As, enter a few test values, close it, reopen it, and confirm the values remain. Browser PDF viewers differ; keep the original master untouched.

Do not place in this workbook
- Full street addresses, ID copies, card numbers, medical details, device passcodes, or unmasked tracking numbers.
- A universal retention/disposal date copied from this kit. Local law, platform rules, carrier rules, property policy, and item type can differ.
- A claim that a payment, shipment, delivery, ownership decision, or legal review occurred when it did not.

Limits
This is an operational record, not legal, insurance, carrier, platform, security, or identity-verification advice. A completed form shows only what was recorded. It does not prove ownership, legal compliance, item contents, delivery, reimbursement, fault, or guest satisfaction.
